The new international terminal under construction at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa may be put into use before the end of 2017. This is according to the airport manager, Engr. Chigbo Nwobu, who spoke to Airport correspondents recently.

Engr Nwobu expressed satisfaction at the rate work is going on at the site as well as on the level of work already done, adding “it is progressive. If you pass through there, you will see the tremendous work going on. They are on target.”

Giving a pass mark to the Chinese Engineering Construction Company (CECC), the contractor handling the project, the airport manager noted that at the completion of the project, airport users would see a new international terminal building and apron with the state-of-the-art facilities fit for public use.

He expressed hope that by the time the new terminal is completed, other international airlines, apart from Air France and Lufthansa that are currently operating at the airport, would start flying there.

According to him, the other international airlines need to make their market survey and enquiries as well as fulfill some regulatory conditions, pointing out that by the time they see modern facilities and a conducive environment to operate, they would surely come.
