PCRC Assures NYSC Members Of Peace, Safety In Rivers

Newly deployed members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to State has been assured that they are safe and secured.

Rivers State Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Voke Emore gave the assurance on Tuesday while delivering a security lecture to members of NYSC Batch A Stream 1, 2026, at the Orientation Camp in Nonwa, Tai Local Government Area of the State.

The PCRC Chairman stressed that the state is enjoying a peaceful atmosphere under the leadership of CP Olugbenga Adepoju as the Commissioner of Police.

“I want to assure you that Rivers State is safe under the leadership of CP Adepoju as Commissioner of Police,” he said.

Emore highlighted the PCRC’s role in bridging the gap between the community and the police, noting that they have presence in over 36 divisions and nine active Area Command in the state.

He encouraged the Corp members to join PCRC and leverage on the state’s security infrastructure, while urging them to be cautious and respectful of local traditions and cultures.

Emore assured the new NYSC members of PCRC’s support for security and other needs if called upon, but warned them against engaging in activities that could compromise their safety and the security of other.

He also provided guidance on how to seek help from PCRC and the police, including reaching out on social media or contacting local police divisions.

“Our primary responsibility as PCRC is to build bridge between the community and the Police. We are present in over thirty six Divisions. We also have nine active area commands.

“As a corps members, you can be part of PCRC. When you are out of camp, locate any Police Division around your area of primary assignment, ask for the PCRC Chairman. We are there to support you security wise and when you need help.

“When you are posted to any Community, meet the DPO of the Police Division tell him you want to connect to the PCRC Chairman of the Division. When you have accommodation problems, issues relating to your host community, as long as you are a PCRC Member the issues will be attended to.

“Rivers State is safe but security is everyone’s business. You have to be careful and in the community you don’t just go out anyhow, ensure that your friends know your whereabout. Learn about the tradition and culture of where you are posted to, in case they have festivals that you are not supposed to go out at night. You must be careful.

“If you have anything that has to do with security challenges in your area of primary assignment, meet the DPO directly. As corps member you have the right to demand to see the DPO of any station.

“PCRC is here to guide, support you. You can also reach out to us too on Facebook, Instagram and we will respond to you.

“If you have a situation where a Police officer is also trying to intimidate you, also reach out to us” Mr Emore said.

The event was attended by the Commandant of Police Training College, Nonwa-Tai, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Okere Daniel, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Moses Nnyam rtd., Mrs Darlene Tasie, State women leader of PCRC, and other officials of the PCRC in Rivers State.
