Akperhe-Olomu community, Olomu kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State was agog recently as an Oviri-Olomu born politician and Urhobo cultural promoter, Hon. Chief (Amb.) Joseph Udusan Orekereke, decamped to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), with his political followers and supporters.
The event which took place on April 14, 2021 was organized and hosted by the PDP, Olomu Ward 2 at Akperhe-Olomu community, witnessed the attendance of political chieftains and leaders of the PDP in Olomu Ward 2 and Ughelli South chapter of the party.
Speaking during the event, the Ughelli South chairman of the party, Hon. D.M. Oshetigho, said, “The PDP is a big political family that can accommodate everybody. On this note, I want to happily welcome our brother and Olomu respected son, Hon. Joseph Udusan Orekereke to our great party.
“The PDP is the biggest political party in Africa. He was once here with us before he left to another political party. But today, he’s back to his original political roots. He didn’t come alone. He pulled along all his political followers and supporters to join us. In PDP, we don’t discriminate anybody. We hereby accept you and your teeming supporters back to your original political party.”
Speaking in the same vein, the Olomu Ward 2 chairman, Hon. Idolor Victor, appreciated the bold step taken by the Ughelli based business mogul, Hon. Chief Orekereke, and all his political fans and friends in coming back to the PDP.
“I appreciate this bold step taken by our political leader today. We promised to work with him to move this electoral ward forward. Hon. Orekereke is very popular here and he’s also a grassroots politician. His coming back to our great party is a welcome development. On behalf of the party, we hereby declare you a bonafide member of the PDP.”
Also, political leader of Olomu Ward 2 and a respected Olomu chief, Chief Joe Unuame, advised the Orekereke and his followers to always be steadfast and faithful in pursuing their political dreams and ambitions. Chief Unuame however assured Hon. Orekereke and his followers of reaping the fruits of their labour if they join in contributing to the success and greatness of the party.
Hear him: “Hon. Chief Orekereke is our own son here. We can’t deny him of any political favour in this regards. All we are saying is that, he and his followers that joined us today should be steadfast and faithful in everything concerning the party. We assure him that his political ambition would come to reality here. He should just be patient with us. We know his political capacity especially in grassroots mobilization. We happily rejoice with him for taken this life changing decision.”
In a chat with our correspondent after the event, the elated video and music producer, Hon. Chief Orekereke said, “Today, I’m the happiest person to join this winning party in Delta State and Nigeria. It’s a decision reached within my heart. I wasn’t forced or cajoled by any person or political father to take this singular decision. Truly, I was once in PDP. I joined the PDP in 2005 at Ughelli, the place of my residence. But I was forced to leave the party because of the style of politics being played in the area.
“Our people say, whether east or west, north or south, home is the best. This is why I decided to come to my home ward with all the members of my political forum to join the party that can create that opportunity for us to enable our dreams to come true. Joining PDP is the happiest thing that has happened to me and my political family today. Let me at this time thank all the leaders of the party in the ward for happily accepting me and members of my political forum as full members of the party. We are ready henceforth to work with the party. This is the best place to be. I’m indeed happy,” he said.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of the party membership card to Chief (Amb.) Joseph Udusan Orekereke by the chairman of the ward, Hon. Idolor Victor in the presence of other PDP chieftains in the ward; chieftains that include Hon. D. M. Oshetigho, chairman of PDP, Ughelli South chapter; Chief Joe Unuame, PDP leader, Olomu Ward 2; Chief John Onochoja, PDP leader, Olomu Ward 2; Chief John Ewenede, president-general of Oviri-Olomu community and a leader of the party; Mr. John Okuah, vice chairman, Olomu Ward 2; Bar. Oghenetega Ipheghe, secretary Olomu Ward 2; Bar. Ese Ernest Igbighogho, legal adviser, Olomu Ward 2; Mr. Victor Eghwubare, youth leader, Olomu Ward 2; Mrs. Rita Dennis, women leader, Olomu Ward 2 and other members of the party.
Among those that decamped to the PDP were Comr. Akpobome Ezekiel, director-general, Samgo Political Forum; Mr. Kesiena Oloku, secretary of the forum; Amb Joseph Useh, youth leader and others.
