Some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State have declared support for the possible gubernatorial aspiration of the senator representing Rivers South East, Sen. Magnus Abe, urging him to present himself for the 2019 governorship election, on the platform of the party.

The party chieftains, coming under the banner of pro-APC groups, such as Progressives Alliance for Senator Magnus Abe and M30, said only Abe is capable of facing the incumbent governor of the state, Chief Nyesom Wike, in the 2019 governorship election.

Speaking at a stakeholders meeting in Port Harcourt a chieftain of the party in Etche Local Government Area, Chief Allwell Nyesoh, pointed out that members of the party aspiring for elective positions are free to do so without waiting for approval from anybody.

Nyesoh said that the days of waiting for a man to determine who would contest from any elective position in the APC in Rivers State was over, adding that Abe was mature and qualified to contest and win the governorship election.

He said, “Only one man has the capability to face Governor (Nyesom) Wike. The man is Senator Magnus Abe. Others are counterfeit. We are waiting for the time to stay where we normally stay (Government House). Let us follow humble Magnus Abe.

“Magnus Abe is the only one that is not an emperor without an empire. The days where anybody someone brings is the person we must follow are gone. Let us see with our eyes and not through another man’s eyes.”

Also in a communique signed by some other chieftains of the APC in the state, Chidi Wihioka, Felix Nwaeke, Augustine Wokocha, Maurice Pronen, Marcus Ejii and Ipalibo Harry, the party called on Abe not to be afraid to aspire for the position of the governor in 2019.

“The meeting called on him (Abe) to present himself for the 2019 gubernatorial election on the platform of our great party, APC, as he clearly has the support and approval of a vast majority of our party faithful across the state.

“The meeting stated that Senator Magnus Ngei Abe’s eminent qualification to aspire to the Office of the Governor of Rivers State under the party could not be questions,” the communique read.

The stakeholders, however, expressed gratitude to God for the quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari and his return to the country to continue the task of building a new Nigeria.

Some of those who attended the meeting are party faithful from the 23 local government areas of the state, members of the National Assembly from Rivers State, some State House of Assembly members and others who served in the immediate past administration.
