By Young E. Freeborn, Warri

As is his practice every year, a young political activist, Mr. Ejoke Okreghe, has celebrated his birthday in style and with a call on the Federal Government to provide job opportunities for young Nigerian graduates, as “the future of the country belongs to them whether the present crop of leaders in this country accept it or not.”

Speaking to our correspondent during the birthday event which was held at his Unenurhie community residence in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on January 26, 2023, he appreciated God for protecting his life to see “another glorious year despite the numerous challenges surrounding the year 2022.”

Mr. Okreghe who was optimistic that, this year would be far better than last year in many ways said, “First, I want to thank God for keeping me to see this new and glorious year. Also, I want to thank God for me to witness yet another birthday in my life. It has become a yearly norm and practice with me. It’s not a matter of money. Once it’s the time, I must celebrate it whether in low key or in a big way. Birthday is a yearly event.

“I want to use this occasion to call on both the Delta State and federal government to look into the plight and pains of young graduates in this country. After spending money, time and passing through strenuous journey in our higher institutions, at the end of graduation, we will begin to look for employment to no avail.

“This is very worrisome to youths in this country. I want to call on Nigerian youths especially young graduates to stand on their rights in these coming general elections. We must vote for those that are also feeling our pains and the hardship we are consistently passing through on daily basis. We shouldn’t be enticed with money and their children are well placed to take over from them tomorrow. We can’t continue to be slaves in this our own country after the education our parents struggled to give us.”

Mr. Okreghe who was highly elated over the numbers of birthday messages and gifts that came to him from family members, friends and well wishers during the event said, “Words are not really enough to express my appreciation to all of you that are here with me. I also want to thank my brothers and sisters who have sent me birthday messages and gifts on this occasion. In fact, I have received thousands of birthday messages on my Facebook and Whatsapp accounts. I’m indeed grateful to all of you for your support to me one way or the other. This really shows that, you love me so much. It’s not a matter of money.

“Therefore, all I’m saying in essence is that, the government should consider the common people in their policies and programmes. They should create opportunities for the youths to display their skills and talents. Let me again advise you to vote wisely in this 2023 general elections. The cost of living in this country is becoming higher and higher every day. Once again, I want to thank all of you for celebrating my birthday with me in love and peace.”

The birthday event however ended with the cutting of the birthday cake by the celebrant, Mr. Okreghe supported by his family members and friends.
