In a bid to “appreciate God’s goodness in his life,” Prince Oghenerukevwe Okifo, the founder of a non-governmental organization in Delta State, the Prince Oghenekevwe Okifo Foundation (POOF), has sponsored 15 youths to acquire entrepreneurial skills in various trades and businesses.
The one-year skills acquisition programme, aimed at taking the youths off the street, covers welding and fabrication, hair stylist, fashion design, hair stylist/makeup and computer training.
Prince Okifo, who had in the past empowered several youths to start up small scale businesses, took a step further to enroll the youths at various skills acquisition centres in Ughelli, fully paid for by his foundation, with each beneficiary to receive starter kit on graduation.
The beneficiaries included; Mr Tase, Blessing Godfrey, Daniel Oghenerukevwe, Ononibe Oghenevwede, Faith Kori Siakpere, Oghenetega Laura, Oyeye Eguono, Amasa Blessing and Siakpere Ogheneruemu.
Others were Omote Elvis Ugherughe Oghenetejiri, Akpabio Peace, Paul Onome Loveth and Ishoka Favour. The beneficiaries are all from communities in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The founder of POOF while addressing the beneficiaries said that the skills acquisition programme would serve as a source of livelihood for the beneficiaries.
He urged them to see the gesture as a rare privilege and make good use of the skills acquired.
According to him, POOF has been supporting lives in various ways and would continue to do so, through other means such as cash empowerment to beneficiaries to enable them set up trades.
He said the foundation has also empowered petty traders whose properties were destroyed during the #EndSARS protest, and distributed books and other writing materials to ten schools across Ughelli North LGA.
“The foundation has also been involved in medical outreach at Agbarha-Otor and Usiefrun communities in Ughelli North and Ughelli South LGAs respectively.” said the POOF founder.
Secretary of the foundation, Hon. Desmond Okpako Duke, charged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the skills acquisition programme so as to help engage others.
He emphasized the need for well-meaning individuals to join hands to help empower youths in the society.
