By Young E. Freeborn, Warri

The Prince Oghenerukevwe Okifo Foundation (POOF) recently paid a visit to Ohoror community in Uwheru kingdom, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State over the tanker fire that ravaged part of the community, rendering over thirty families homeless and many businesses closed.

The visit, which was led by the founder and CEO of the foundation, Prince Oghenerukevwe Okifo, in the company of the secretary, Hon. Desmond Okpako, and other principal officers, was to commiserate with families that lost their houses, properties worth millions of naira and other valuables to the inferno. He also sympathized with those that lost their businesses as a result of the fire incidence.

Addressing victims at the scene of the incident, Prince Okifo said, “There is time for everything. This is not time to laugh or dance. It’s a time for sober reflection, seeing the devastating effects of this fire incidence upon the people. I know many people are suffering at the moment. Many are without shelter and others lost their businesses. Many don’t even have food to eat again.

“In fact, you need the assistance of both the federal and Delta State governments to quickly recover from the effects of this incidence. In the same way too, you also need the support and assistance of foundations like this very one, socio-cultural organizations, political associations, religious organizations, especially the church and individuals to recover fast. We are really sorry about what happened. Take solace in the Lord.”

Prince Okifo, on behalf of the foundation, POOF, however promised to attend to the needs of the victims as fast as possible, by way of supporting them with relief materials and other necessary things.

Secretary of the foundation, Hon. Desmond Okpako, urged the people to always look unto God “in such heart-breaking situations as this.”

Hear him: “I want to advise victims of this fire incidence to always look unto God at this time. I know properties worth millions of naira went off here. But we should be thankful to God for our lives. Our people say, when there’s life, there is hope.

“Already the founder and CEO of this great foundation has told you everything we need to say here. But I just want to support him. We will try as much as possible to see what we can do to salvage the situation at the moment. We really care about your welfare and basic needs. That’s why we came for this visit. We are sorry about what happened,” he said.

Responding, one of the victims, Clement Sapele, thanked the Prince Oghenerukevwe Okifo Foundation (POOF) for the visit and also thanked the founder of the foundation for his words of consolation and encouragement. He begged the foundation and other well-meaning Nigerians and groups to immediately come to their aid as many are already falling sick as a result of their loss in the fire incidence.

Mr. Sapele also reminded those that have made various promises to the victims to remember and fulfill such promises especially the Delta State governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
