Members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Bayelsa State chapter, have “disconsolately mourned the passage of the leader of Igbos, an illustrious son of Igboland and Nigeria, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Worldwide, Prof Amb. George Obiozor.”

In a statement signed by the Bayelsa State chapter chairman, Mazi Johnson Onuma, described Prof Obiozor as “a very distinguished academician, a prodigious diplomat, an elder statesman and a sedulous patriot.”

Prof Obiozor passed on after a brief illness. He was aged 80 years.

According to Mazi Onuma, the death of the foremost Igbo leader and former Nigeria’s ambassador to the United States and the State of Israel, is a big loss to Ohanaeze Ndigbo Bayelsa State, Igbo race, and the entire Nigeria.

He added that Nigeria and the international community will greatly miss his keen intellectual contributions and wise counsel on national and global issues.
