The new managing director and chief executive officer of the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority, Senator Tijani Yahaya Kaura, has assured staff of the authority of his commitment to implementing programmes geared towards improving staff working conditions and welfare.
The OGFZA boss made this known while on a familiarization visit to the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority in Onne Rivers State recently.
Kaura said improving staff welfare is necessary in the bid to achieve the authority’s set objectives, adding that only a motivated staff can achieve success for any organization.
He thus ordered the implementation of the lingering promotion exercise with immediate effect.
Kaura said the visit was aimed at acquainting him with the facilities and members of staff of the authority, he urged the management and staff to be dedicated to their duties.
While acknowledging the importance of the authority in growing the nation’s economy, he maintained that there is need to strike equilibrium in getting investors by way of incentives, adding that it is only growth in the economy that can make a country grow.
He also tasked the staff of authority on the need to improve on internal revenue generation (IGR) mechanism in order to generate more funds to meet the financial obligations including payment of staff salaries.
Rounding up the visit with inspection of ongoing projects in the free zone including the building project for warehousing and office spaces, Kaura also met with heads of paramilitary agencies in the free zone such as Customs, Immigration, fire service, police and the DSS as well as terminal operators including Intels Nig Ltd, West African Container Terminal (WACT), Pipe Coaters Ltd and Technip FMC where the managing director was briefed on the operations and structures as well as challenges of the various companies by their operational heads.
He promised to leverage on his pedigree as a former foreign affairs minister to move the oils and gas free zones authority to the next level by ensuring a conducive environment for all stakeholders.
He however commended the outgoing managing director Mr Umana Okon Umana for his achievements at the OGFZA.
