Odion’Rode of Evwreni Kingdom Joins Ancestors, Council Declares Mourning

The Odion’Rode -in-Council of Evwreni Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has announced the passage of its fifteenth Odion’Rode, His Highness Obakowho Amrophe, who joined his ancestors at the age of 54.

The announcement which was contained in a statement issued and signed by Ahaji Bar. Mumakai Unagha, on behalf of the Odion’Rode -in-Council of Evwreni Kingdom disclosed that “during the period of mourning in the entire kingdom, no marriage, funeral and other social events would take place in the community.”

The statement read in parts, “I wish to formally announce the passage of His Highness, Obakowho Amrophe, the Odion’Rode of Evwreni kingdom.

“Obakowho Amrophe was the fifteenth Odion’Rode in the history of the Odion’Rode traditional institution in Okpawha community in Evwreni kingdom. He passed on at the age of 54 years. He was installed in 2017 after the demise of the fourteenth Odion’Rode, late His Highness Johnson Igbowe.

“The Odion-In-Council therefore, wishes to declare seven days of mourning for the demise of the traditional ruler until after the rites of passage would be announced to the people of Evwreni kingdom later.”

The statement further read, “During the mourning period, no marriage, funeral and other ceremonies would take place in the community.

“On behalf of the Ukoro Society and the good people of Evwreni, we wish to inform you that the Odion’Rode has travelled to join his ancestors. To this end, the Ovworevbe of Evwreni kingdom, Chief Wilfred Utuedor shall hold brief, whilst the rites of passage to be observed by the community. Chief Wilfred Utuedor will lead members of the Odion’Rode-In-Council and the Ukoro Society to the various traditional grounds, such as the Ohwigbo, Otoro, Iyobiri etc as well as the four sub-quarters of Okpahwa, Uruekpo, Ekrameha and Uwotie.”

Alhaji Bar. Unagha said that, in the course of the rites of passage, the community will also pay tributes to the fifteen past Edions that had ruled over the community.

He named them to include, Evburhu Achichi (1599 – 1621); Edjebike Avwerhohor (1621 – 1666); Akporhoro Egbelegbe (1666 – 1997); Ofogba Ewhu (1697 – 1771); Edioghor Evburhu (1721 – 1810); Akpedafe Akporhaho (1770 – 1810); Ewhu Ofogba (1810 – 1864); Iteghe Isabiza (Isaza) (1870 – 1908); Akuruemu Ewhu (1915 – 1948); Amrophe Abokitia        (1948 – 1967); Utuedor Utih (1967 – 1993); Harrison Atsiroro (1998 – 1996) acting capacity; Johnson Igbowe (1996 – 2016) and Amrophe Obakowho (2016 – 2022).

Rites of passage of the departed Odion’Rode are to be announced later.
