Odili Cancer Hospital: Explain Allegations of 97% Profit-Sharing, RIVCSO Tells Fubara

The Rivers State Civil Societies Organization (RIVCSO) has called on the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and the state Commissioner for Health, Mrs Adaeze Oreh, to explain to Rivers State the true state of the Dr. Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Hospital in Rumuokwuta.

The call is coming against the backdrop of “weighty allegation of profit sharing between a private consultant and the Rivers State Government.”

In a release made available to our reporter, chairman of the Rivers State Civil Society Organization, Enefaa Georgewill, said “We specifically demand that the governor and the commissioner for Health should address the state on the weighty allegation that the immediate past governor (Chief Nyesom Wike) signed an agreement with a private consultant that will manage and take 97% of the profits of the hospital, while Rivers people, whose resources were used to build the hospital, will take paltry 3% of the profits.

“If the governor or the commissioner fail to explain to the people within 7 days, the Rivers State Civil Society Organization will be forced to invoke our rights as enshrined in the Freedom of Information Act and promise that we will pursue this matter to the court,” he said.

Democracy, Georgewill pointed out, is all about the people, adding that “those who govern hold trust for the people. They must explain to the people.”
