After last weekend’s defeat in Ijebu-Ode, Bayelsa United returns to the Samson Siasia Stadium where they host former Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL champions, Kano Pillars in Yenagoa.
The Prosperity Boys will seek to rewrite their story on Sunday against the Sai Masu Gida side having lost 3-0 to Sunshine Stars in matchday one.
Last season, Bayelsa United beat Kano Pillars 2-1 at home, goals from John Bassey and a late minute goal from Elvis Ori gave the Yenagoa based side their deserved victory.
Bayelsa United won six times in their past 14 meetings with Kano Pillars. Bayelsa United on March 4th, 2009 held to a 1-1 at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano Pillars in February 25th, 2009 beat Bayelsa United 2-0, shared the spoils on February 17th, 2009.
The Prosperity Boys, as nicknamed, on the 18th of May, 2008 defeated Kano Pillars 2-0 at the Oghara Township Stadium, played out a draw against Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium in January, 15th, 2008.
On the August 9th, 2015 both sides settled for 1-1 same year the Sai Musu Gida beat United 2-0 at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano
Bayelsa United have won six against Kano Pillars while Kano Pillars have won four games and four in draws. The current head to head record for both have seen Bayelsa United winning one and Pillars also winning in their respective homes.
The last three games between Bayelsa United and Kano Pillars have produced eight goals. Bayelsa United are unbeaten in seven home games.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game, technical adviser Ladan Bosso said the lads have put last week’s disappointing outing behind them and are now focused on the clash against Kano Pillars.
Despite the defeat, the experienced Bosso believes that the team can still win the league, stating that the result against Sunshine Stars was just a temporary setback.
He urged the fans and the people of Bayelsa not to relent in their support for the team, saying that he is optimistic of victory on Sunday.
