The management of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Rivers Port, has applauded security agencies at the Eastern ports for their vigilance and commitment to duty, especially over the recent arrests of port thieves and recovery of stolen items at Rivers Port.
In an interview, head, Corporate and Strategic Communications department at the port, Mrs Ezinne Asinobi, said the NPA management, led by Mr. Mohammed Bello Koko, is committed to ensuring maximum support for all security agencies working at the port.
Asinobi commended the arrest of the two suspects and recovery of exhibits, adding that tracing and arresting the accomplice receivers will deter hoodlums from such activity.
Recall that recently, the Nigeria Police, Eastern Ports Command, led by CP Tami Evelyn Peteside, arrested vandals who specialize in the cutting and stealing of steel beam at the quays.
Four suspects were paraded alongside stolen goods and equipment used by the suspects during their operations.
Destruction and stealing of steel beams from quays by vandals, commonly known as ‘port rats,’ had led to the collapse of Berth 8, leading to a long legal battle between a concessioner, BUA, and the management of the Nigeria Ports Authority.
