Nobody has Monopoly of Violence, Ex-Militants Warn ‘Mischief Makers’

By Amos Odhe, Yenagoa

Against the backdrop of the recent verification and audit embarked upon by the Presidential Amnesty Program (PAP), Niger Deltans and other stakeholders have been advised to applaud the agency’s interim administrator, Maj-Gen B.T Ndiomu (retd), rather than “casting aspersion and maligning his reputation.”

The national acting secretary of the third phase of the Presidential Amnesty program, Gen Elaye Slaboh, flanked by Gen Princewill Kotingo and Gen Cairo, stated this while speaking to journalists in Yenagoa on the alleged threat to attack Odoni in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, the PAP boss’ home town, by “disgruntled individuals who were irked by the recent verification and payroll fraud perpetrated by successive administrations at the PAP.”

The group noted that the reforms are aimed at bringing maximum peace and security to the region and entire nation, while noting that nobody has monopoly of violence in a response to threats against the PAP boss.

According to Elaye Slaboh, a native of Agbere, a neighbouring community to Odoni, who also doubles as the All Stars Leadership of the PAP, “since the massive discovery of payroll fraud at the PAP, there has been, aggrieved persons planning to attack Odoni community, but l am using this medium to urge those concerned  to sheath their sword as the people of  Odoni, Bayelsa State government and the security agencies would  not  fold their hands and allow anybody to invade Odoni  community”

He said that this is not the first verification, as government and agencies have been carrying out verifications to detect fraud, ensure transparency and accountability,  adding that the one carried out by Maj-Gen Ndiomu should not been seen as witch- hunt against anybody, but  be accepted as well-thought out to sanitize “a bastardized and corrupt system.”

He therefore called on alleged “mischief makers, their sponsors and those embarking on protests to desist forthwith as, the exercise should be commended and supported as previous interim administrators overlooked this administrative rascality which Maj-Gen B.T. Ndiomu does not want to continue as he has integrity and name to protect having meritoriously retired from the Nigerian Army without any stained record of service.”

He further used the medium to appeal to people in the Niger Delta region, especially all those affected with the verification to maintain peace as they should shun being used to foment crisis in the region which is presently enjoying relative peace.

“Under Gen-Maj Ndiomu, we the third phase ex-militants say bye bye to protest and blocking of the ever busy East-West road,” he said.
