The long awaited peace and unity, which had eluded the family and children of late Uku Sunday Efedudu in time past, as a result of enmity, hatred and avarice, has finally returned to them.
Late Uku Sunday Efedudu was the founder of Igbe Orhe Ofuafo Oghene Healing Home Inc, situated at Unenurhie town, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State with branches of the Igbe religious home spread across the country, especially in the Niger Delta region.
The return to peace followed a well attended reconciliation meeting which was held on August 12, 2021 at Uku Sunday Efedudu’s palatial compound and convened by the president-general of Unenurhie community, Mr. Peter Maison, who is also a member of the family.
Speaking during the meeting, Maison who is a justice of peace noted that “as an advocate of peace, I can’t see a place where there is trouble or crisis in this community and begin to keep quiet. I can’t fold my hands for enmity to grow in my family or community. This is why I took it upon myself to call this family meeting, including elders and leaders of the community to help me settle the misunderstanding among my father’s children.
“The late Uku Sunday Efedudu was a father in our family and also to the entire Unenurhie community. We can’t fold our hands and allow disunity and hatred to tear his children apart. All through the man’s life, he was a peace maker and a sacrificial religious leader in this part of the country. Today, I’m happy that the issue of disunity and hatred in the compound among the children has been finally nipped in the bud. All the children are now one as it used to be.”
Also speaking during the meeting, another member of the family and also a high class Igbe adherent, Mr. James Amuke, appreciated the convener of the peace and reconciliation meeting, Mr. Maison, and elders of the family that supported the reconciliation of Uku Sunday’s children.
“Truly, my brother, Mr. Peter Maison has satisfactorily merited the title of the ‘Justice of the Peace’ recently bestowed upon him by the Delta State government. He’s indeed a peacemaker in the town. I thank him for his efforts and labour to see that this lingering matter has peacefully come to an amiable end.
“In the same way, I want to thank all the children of our late father for obeying this clarion call of reconciliation among them. I believe they will henceforth learn from their past mistakes. We should learn to tolerate each other and be patient in everything we do. I must also thank Uku Simon Efedudu who is the present father of the family and also taken over the position of Uku in the Igbe group after the death of our father. He really played the role of a father for forgiving his siblings and accepted them as his own children.”
In his words of appreciation and thanksgiving, the present ‘Uku’ and also father of the compound, Uku Simon Efedudu, expressed joy that the crisis in his father’s compound had peacefully come to an end.
“Today, I’m overwhelmed with joy and indeed, the happiest man on earth since this issue was amicably and peacefully resolved by elders and leaders of my family and community. Today, I have forgiven all my siblings. My joy is that, they have now accepted me as their present father after our biological father had passed away.
“Let me at this time thank three of my sons and also members of this family for the roles they played in resolving this issue. They are Mr. Peter Maison, Oyiko James Amuke and Mr. Young Erhiurhoro. In the same way, I also thank all the elders and members of the Imonioghare and Ayode/Isodje families present here. All community leaders present here are also appreciated for their efforts. No more hatred, fighting or enmity among us. We are now one indivisible family,” he said.
The peace and reconciliation meeting ended with prayers offered by elders of the family for the unity and peace of all the children of the late religious icon.
