All is now set for the National convention of the Niger Delta Students Union Government (NIDSUG) to be held at the Federal College of Education (Technical) Omoku, Rivers State.
NIDSUG is the apex and highest decision making union of students from the nine oil producing states in Nigeria, and those resident in the Diaspora.
According to a press statement signed by Comrade David Aladesanmi, Sen. Okoi and Sen. John Akinmagbe, the national convention was “an aftermath of resolution taken following the body’s hitherto fractionalization that was resolved by Dr Felix Tuodolo after the disillusion of factional heads and consequently lifted the ban on the 2022 – 2023 unity convention election at FCE Omoku.”
They said, “factionalization was an ill wind that blows nobody any good, hence machineries were put in place to elect credible leaders that could give the union quality representation among the comity of student unionisms.”
“NIDSUG has been in the vanguard of the clamour for equity, justice and good governance in Nigeria and in the diaspora, having affiliation with the International Union of Students (IUS), All African Students Union (AASU) and National Association of University students.
“The union is saddled with the responsibility of providing administrative leadership for all Niger Delta students from the nine oil producing states,” they said.
The statement further “enjoined aspirants and delegates to comport themselves with decorum for a peaceful election, since unity is their priority, at the end of the convention, certificates of return shall be issued to all elected members immediately.
