Basic infrastructure challenges confronting Nigerian Naval College (NNC), Ebubu, Eleme, Rivers State, have been tackled.
Rear Admiral Haruna Zego, outgoing Commandant of the College, disclosed this while handing over to the new Commandant, Commodore Johnson Adewoyina.
Recounting how he achieved the feat, Rear Admiral Zego explained that on assumption of office, he met some infrastructure challenges which were limiting smooth training and development of officers.
‘’Some of the challenges that stared at me in the face upon my assumption of office which I urgently addressed ranged from epileptic power supply to poor waterways supply.
“There were also security challenges, defective facilities at the hostels and officers quarters as well as poor water supply amongst others. This did not only impede learning activities but adversely affected living conditions of the entire college community, ‘’ he said.
Zego said his administration’s intervention successfully tackled about 80 per cent of the infrastructure challenges in the college.
‘We made impactful achievements by installing inverters and solar powered systems in the classrooms to ensure a conducive environment for study during prep time,’’ he said.
Zego said that the installation of solar powered CCTV cameras in strategic locations and solar powered water pumps further boosted security and improved water supply within the college community, adding: “We were able to leverage advancement in technology to mitigate about 80 per cent of the problems militating against the training efficiency,’’ he said.
Commending the officers for contributions towards the growth of the college, Zego said that the successful passing out of 402 cadets was another feat achieved by his administration, urging the new cadets to demonstrate professionalism given the quality training they received.
