Native doctor, 5 others Arrested for Kidnapping in Rivers

…As Police Rescued abducted business woman, Recover Arms.

The Rivers State Police Command have arrested a native doctor and five other suspects for alleged kidnapping in the State.

The native doctor, Mr. Melody Chinedu Otamiri, aged 25 was arrested at Olakwo 2 in Etche local government area of the state, in connection with the kidnap of four students lawyers in August, 2022, while the five others were nabbed at Ogbakiri in Emohua LGA of the state during a raid in their camp by the police.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Emeka Nwonyi while briefing newsmen at the command headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt on Monday said operatives of the command also arrested one Victor David for robbery and car snatching.

CP Nwonyi said the police also rescued a Port Harcourt based business woman who was kidnapped at Okija street, Mile 1 Diobu Port Harcourt on July 7, 2023.

According to him, “On Friday, 14/7/2023 at about 1300hrs, Operatives of the Command with help from the community, arrested One Otamiri Chinedu “M,” age 25yrs of Ulakwo 2 Etche.

“The Hunter Strike Unit of the Command, while working on credible information at about 1400hrs at Ogbakiri Forest Emouha, LGA, Rivers State, on 14/07/2023 stormed the camp of a notorious kidnap kingpin, one Princewill Urlu “M,” (aka Boboyo), now at large. “Five suspects, namely; Adebayo Mercy Aanu, Ikpendu Ibeche, Olu Gabriel, Godstime Samuel and Thankgod Wori (all males) were arrested.

“Two AK47 rifles with breech numbers 5185 and 12369 were recovered. One Hundred and forty-two (142) rounds of AK47 live ammunition, twenty-four (24) rounds of FNC live ammunition, Twenty live ammunitions for GPMG, Four bulletproof vests, thirty six knee guards, and twelve (12) expended AK47 ammunition were also recovered”, he said.

On the rescue of the abducted business woman the CP said, “Operatives of Abali park division, on Saturday, 15/07/2023, at about 0430hrs while on stop and search at Kaduna Street/Aba Road behind, MRS Filling Station, intercepted a Nissan Primera Car with reg. No. Rivers NCH 274 AA, color blue. Immediately, two of the occupants ran away, leaving a woman who was blindfold inside vehicle. She explained how she was kidnapped from her shop, at Rumu Woji Street, Mile One Diobu Port Harcourt on Friday, 07/07/2023”.

The Police Commissioner added that, “Operatives at Azikiwe Division, while on routine stop and search along Lumumber/Emenike at about 0530hrs, 17/07/2023 along Buguma Proof Hotel, arrested one Christian John 20yrs, a resident of Akpor Grammar School, Ozouba. The exhibit recovered from him is a locally made pistol and iron”.

CP Nwonyi Emeka also the press that men of the command on Friday, July 14, 2023 halted cultists activities along the Rumukurushi Pipeline in Obio/Akpor LGA but noted that no arrest was made as the hoodlums took to their heels on sighting the patrol van. He said one locally made pistol, two cartridges and substances suspected to be hard drugs were recovered at the scene.

The arrested native doctor while fielding questions from Journalists confessed to have been involved 3 different kidnapping cases around Etche LGA where he received One million, fifty thousand naira (1,050,000.00) as ransom before his arrest.

His words, “The first one I collect N300,000.00, the second one they paid N250,000.00, then the last one was N500.000.00 ransom”.

CP Nwonyi however urged the public to cooperate with the Police and assist them with credible informations that would help in eradicating crime in the state.
