The joy of Chief Sir Jimmy Nath Coker knew no bound last Sunday June 29, 2025 as he led a long list of high profile personalities who were honoured with a special award, tagged ‘Father of Methodism in Rivers State,’ by the Methodist Church Nigeria.
The award was presented under the supervision of His Grace, the Most Rev. Dr. Effiong Asuquo Esedeke, at the cathedral of Banham Methodist Cathedral Church, Port Harcourt.
The officiating minister His Grace the Most Rev. Dr. Effiong Asuquo Esedeke described Sir, Jimmy Coker as a humble Christian faithful who has rendered quality humanitarian services in God’s vineyard over the years.
In his sermon, taken from Romans Chapter 13 Vs. 7, Most Rev. Esedeke, said there is nothing wrong in giving honour to whom it is due, adding that Abraham, Daniel and others were honoured by God for their good deeds.
The respected man of God however encouraged Christian faithfuls not to say no, when their names are penciled down to be honoured by any group since it is not out of place to appreciate the good work done by an individual.
“In fact, I see honour as an acknowledgement and recognition for a good thing somebody must have done in the society,” he said.
In a chair with our reporter after the church service, the elated Sir Jimmy Coker acknowledged the honour bestowed on him as well deserved, recalling his years of humanitarian service he in God’s vineyard.
He described the honour bestowed on him as a tonic that will spur him to continue the good work he has been doing in Methodist Christian Church Nigeria and the society at large, while urging Christians to always be humble in service to God.
He further urged Christians to sit up in serving God with all their might and disabuse their mind of what is happening in the country today where few individuals want to dominate and corner everything for themselves.
