Media houses in Bayelsa State have been urged to ensure that the public is properly informed about government policies and programs.
The state’s commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Hon Ayiba Crowder Aduba, gave the charge during his maiden tour of state-owned media houses in Yenagoa.
According to him, the media plays a very pivotal role in dissemination of information of government policies and programs as well as enlisting public participation and buy-in.
He said the responsibility of the media houses is to adequately keep the citizenry abreast of developments in the state.
The commissioner, who also said he was aware of the challenges of office accommodation and decay facilities confronting the media houses, announced that government is already in the process of constructing a two-storey multipurpose complex at Ekeki to accommodate the Niger Delta Television, Bayelsa State Broadcasting Corporation and the Bayelsa State Newspaper Corporation.
He said “plans are on top gear for the construction of the current Radio Bayelsa Corporation with architectural drawing completed, while the bill of quantity is been evaluated by the Ministry of Works.”
He urged staff to respect hierarchy in the service to promote cordial working relationship and promised to provide staff with equipment that would enhance their productivity.
In separate remarks, the acting general manager of the state-owned Niger Delta Television, Fred Fabor, and his Radio Bayelsa counterpart, Mrs Pere Hobobo and Ebi Evinson of the Newspaper Corporation lauded the commissioner for the visit and pledged to key into the prosperity agenda of the state government.
