The final burial rites for late Mama Iwari Omote Ogbono have been slated for November 10 and 11, 2023 at Unenurhie community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to a statement signed by Mama’s eldest son, Mr. Reuben Eretare Ogbono, and a member of the family, Mr. Kester Ogbariemu, late Mama Iwari Omote Ogbono would be accorded full Urhobo traditional funeral rites as she “was a core traditionalist till her death.
The statement further read that, traditional wake-keep would be held in her honour at her husband’s compound on November 10th by the children, family members, guests and members of Unenurhie community.
“The following day November 11th, Mama’s corpse would be committed to mother earth according to the funeral rites of the Unenurhie people at her family’s compound also in Unenurhie community.
“Immediately after the interment, a grand reception would be held for invited guests by Mama’s children and family members at the Unenurhie Primary School playing field. On the same day, there would be condolence visit by Mama’s in-laws to pay their last respect to the departed mother.”
According to the statement, the family therefore invites all Unenurhie people, family members, friends of the children, clubs and organizations to join the children to give their late mother a befitting Urhobo funeral. Late Mama Iwari Omote Ogbono, popularly known as “Oni-Eshare” was survived by children, many grand and great grand children and family members. She passed on at the ripe age of 95 years.
