Lawson Heyford Receives Rotary International Community Service Award

In a subliminal ceremony held recently in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital, Elder Lawson Heyford, general manager, Peoples 93.1FM was conferred with Community Service Award by Rotary International Club of Port Harcourt Gateway, District 9141, Nigeria.

The award came following his nomination, which was contained in a letter dated 10th February, 2020 and signed by Rotarian Bibi Bagshew, on behalf of the planning committee, tasked with the itinerary for the 2020 Rotary International Day.

In conferring the award, Rotarian Sunny Barika, president of Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Gateway, District 9141 Nigeria, said the club took into account the numerous contributions of Elder Heyford to humanity, peace building and community development and found him worthy of the award.

Rotarian Barika also used the occasion to state that Rotary International is an international service organization whose purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

The club president added that Rotary Club is a secular organization opened to all peoples regardless of race, color, creed, religion, gender or political preference.

Commenting, Sotonye Oruari Nwachukwu, immediate past president of Rotary Gateway Port Harcourt commended the administration of Rotarian Sunny Barika for piloting the affairs of Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Gateway District 9141, Nigeria through the institution of the award which has taken the club activities far greater than what they did and wished him well as his team leads the club through 2020/2021.

On his part, the awardee, Elder Lawson Heyford, who was represented by Ukandi Akpekwu Imbufe, head, Port Harcourt Office, Peoples 93.1, thanked Rotary Club Port Harcourt Gateway for the award, adding that he was humbled by the award and hopes to live up to expectation.

Elder Heyford pledged to use the remaining of his life in serving humanity and in whatever capacity Rotary would want him to partner with them, he would make time available for such services.
