The remains of the late Racheal Uguedjobayire Ighojopha (Nee Okioma), who died at the ripe age of 94, has been laid to rest at Egbo quarter of Uwheru, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Late Madam Ighojopha was the eldest sister to Port Harcourt Mundial’s regional editor, Olorogun Amos Okioma.
The burial ceremony which started with her remains conveyed from the mercy mortuary, Ughelli in a motorcade to her father’s compound at Uruokpokpo Street, Ehere Quarter where the body was received by family members and thereafter intered at Egbo quarter, according to her wish.
According to her biography, read by his first son, Mr Monday Ighojopha, a chieftain of the APC, late mama Racheal Uguedjobayire Ighojopha was born into the family of Okioma Ebiku of Uruokpokpo Street, Ehere in Uwheru in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on 24th October, 1928.
She got married to late Ezekiel Ighojopha Okoro of Egbo quarter in Uwheru and the marriage was blessed with eight children and many grand and great grand children.
The biography further read that Late Madam Ighojopha was a very social woman, social in the sense that, all she got from farm proceeds and other businesses she invested in her children, non-biological children and other members of the family. “We were made to understand that since she got married to late Ezekiel Ighojopha Okoro, she never left her matrimonial home with annoyance and she generously shared with any body in need.
“In her sojourn on earth she was God fearing and dedicated her life to serving God, as a Christian who was baptized in Church of God Mission International in Benin City and until she passed on 13th November, 2022, when she died peacefully at the age of 94, she was devout christian.”
In his tribute, her younger brother, a Bayelsa-based media practitioner, Olorogun Aherhoke Amos Okioma, said it was difficult to distinguished between his late sister and their own mother, “because she was always there for me while our mother was alive and her motherly care was unquantifiable and l will greatly miss the soothing names and praises she always poured on me as our mother’s last born.
“Even in her sick bed she still struggled to call my names, which other siblings didn’t call me. As a young man growing up l can never forget your generosity as l learned you merited the name mama from your tender age, because you cared for everybody, not only your biological children.
“Mama you have completed your race, may the all mighty God grant you eternal rest until we meet to part no more,” he said.
In her tribute, one of Late Madam Ighojopha’s children, Mrs Yellow Ejuvwevwo said, “we thank God for a fulfilled life of our great and caring loving mother, a down to earth person, honest, strict and faithful mother who didn’t discriminate in her generosity, and not withstanding the vicissitudes of life she always encouraged us to have faith in God.
“All through her life, she appreciated gifts and kind gestures towards her. On receipt of any of her children, her usual reply was: ‘I thank God before l thank you.’ She was a disciplinarian and strict who didn’t fail to wield the stick, if need be, and with youthful exuberance we still blended together especially in our formative years and she always advised us to shun anything inimical to our progress.”
ln their tributes, the grand children said, “grandma, as you are going to enter the heavenly home, may you rest in peace which you truly deserved, for you will be truly be remembered and missed for your honour and love which we will treasured.
“Grandma, we don’t have adequate words to express how much we missed you as your demise has filled us with sadness.”
Also, a daughter in law, Mrs Monday Ighojopha, said “We know you will not live on planet earth forever because death is inevitable, it’s occurrence is always shocking and sorrowful no matter the age and we shall always treasure how you taught us to always do good to humanity. Indeed, you were a role model worthy of emulation. Since to everything there is season and a time for every purpose under the earth; A time to be born and a time to die according to Ecclesiastes 1 verse 1-2.
