Over 2,000 students of Government Secondary School (GSS) Emohua, and Government Secondary School (both Senior and the Universal Basic Education, UBE, Sections), GSS, Okporoworo, Ogbakiri, all in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, have benefitted from the free distribution of free educational materials by the EMOLGA Journalists Association, EJA, Worldwide.

A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the Association, Comrade Emmanuel Nlewedum, noted that over 4,000 exercise books were distributed to about 2,000 students of the schools by the EMOLGA Journalists as part of the 4th edition of their ‘Education Support Project’, 2025 which was done in partnership with Kebetkache Women Development and Resource Centre.

Chairman of the Association, Comrade Kennedy Wedeh in the statement, said the exercise which is the organisation’s way of supporting education in the LGA, was aimed at cushioning the effect of the high cost of academic materials and increase in the cost of education on the students.

Wedeh added that the exercise was also designed to provide relief for indigent families who struggle to provide basic education materials for their children and wards in public schools in the area, as well as making learning easy for the students.

He advised the students to make good use of the materials provided for them and take their studies serious and stay away from social vices within and outside the school environment, if they must achieve their future dreams.

He said, “EMOLGA Journalists Association, is an umbrella body of practicing Journalists from Emohua Local Government Area, saddled with the responsibility of promoting and supporting good governance, project and protect the image of the LGA and her citizens among others.

“This is our own little way of giving back to the society, and to promote and support education in our LGA. We felt that with this, we can support our little brothers and sisters in the public schools as well as their parents who finds it difficult to provide for them.

“This project was done in partnership with Kebetkache Women Development and Resource Centre to support these children.”

Wedeh expressed appreciation to the Executive Director of Kebetkache Women Development and Resource Centre, Dr. Emem Okon and her management team for their support that led to the success of the 4th edition of the EMOLGA Journalists’ Education Support Project, 2025.

“I want to use this medium to specially thank Kebetkache Women Development and Resource Centre for their partnership with EMOLGA Journalists which made this programme as success.

“We also commend the organisation (Kebetkache) for the good works they are doing, especially their dedication and untiring commitment in advocating for the rights of women, environmental justice and for the betterment and healthy living of the good in Rivers State, Niger Delta and Nigeria in general.”

Wedeh, on behalf of the EMOLGA Journalists Association Worldwide, appealed to stakeholders in Emohua LGA, especially Community leaders to support the schools in their domains especially in providing adequate security for the school properties.

Principal, Government Secondary School (Senior), GSS Emohua, Dr. Mrs. Ineibi Gibson thanked the EMOLGA Journalists Association for the gesture.

Gibson expressed excitement and called on other sons and daughters of Emohua LGA to emulate the Journalist group and see how they can support educations in the area.

On his part, the Principal of GSS Ogbakiri (UBE), Mr. Enyaburugu Ogechukwu thanked EMOLGA Journalists for the distributing the educational materials, noting that it will help the students in their studies as most students find it difficult to buy these materials.
