Kalawei-ama Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on Saturday elected and swore in a new paramount ruler, His Highness Lloyd P. Sese and His deputy, His Highness Arthur Frank, to oversee the affairs of the community.
The people gathered at the town hall of the community to elect their new traditional leaders.
His Highness Lloyd who served as deputy paramount ruler of the community for over 30 years, polled 61 votes, while his deputy, His Highness Arthur, also polled 61 votes.
While declaring the results of the election, the returning officer, Chief Francis Wainwei, announced that 61 voters were duly accredited and 61 votes were cast while void votes were zero. He thanked members of the community for their peaceful disposition during the polls and called on neighbouring communities to borrow a leaf from Kalawei-ama Community.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the swearing-in process, His Highness Lloyd Sese attributed his emergence to the handiwork of God, called on his subjects to join hands with him to move the community forward, while preaching the gospel of love to unite Kalawei-ama Community more than ever before.
The new paramount ruler further promised to work in collaboration with the state government and security agencies to bring about the needed peace; especially among the youths of the community.
Voters who spoke to our correspondent described the electoral process as peaceful, free, fair and credible, even as they commended the Electoral Committee for organizing an acceptable election.
