June 12: Groups Intensify Demands For Reinstatement of Fubara, Deputy, Others

As Nigeria prepares to mark Democracy Day on 12th June, 2025, some groups in the state are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritise the reinstatement of suspended governor Siminalayi Fubara and all elected officials of Rivers State.

One of the groups, South South Youths Initiative, SSYI, in a statement by its National President, Imeabe Saviour Oscar, described the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly by President Bola Tinubu as a dent to the country’s democratic process.

The group said the suspension of the elected officials sets a dangerous precedent, threatening the autonomy of states and the will of the people.

The youths group is therefore calling on the president to respect democratic process and reinstate the suspended officials.

“We call on the federal government to respect the democratic process and reinstate Governor Fubara and the suspended lawmakers. We also urge Nigerians to remain vigilant and defend our democracy against any form of manipulation or erosion.

“As we plan to celebrate Democracy Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to the principles of democracy, federalism, and the rule of law. We must work together to ensure that our democratic institutions are strengthened, not weakened,” he said.

Also, a Pro-Fubara group, Enforcers for Good Governance, while endorsing President Tinubu for 2027 elections at a media conference appealed to President Tinubu to lift suspension of governor Fubara on June 12 as democracy day gift to Rivers people.

The group lee by Dr Kingsley Ogu declared their readiness to galvanise grassroots support for President Tinubu.
