It was celebration and jubilation among the people of Uwheru in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State as High Chief Evang. Jabin Okiemute Oyibokure was recently declared the new Odion’Rode of Uwheru kingdom by the Erovie royal community.
The Erovie royal community is the “bonafide and natural owner and producer of the Odion’Rode traditional stool in Uwheru.”
Speaking during the declaration of the new Odion’Rode, the Otota’Rode of Uwheru kingdom, High Chief Edward Eyamu, whose duty it is to announce and declare the most qualified and eligible member of the Ukoro royal society as the Odion’Rode of Uwheru kingdom said, “As our tradition demands in the selection process of a new Odion’Rode, we, the known kingmakers in the Erovie royal community invited all the members of the Ukoro royal society that are paternally related to Erovie royal community to present to us their historical affiliations and membership status in the Ukoro royal society.
“This selection process was held at Enyeruvwu-Odja quarters. We all listened attentively to the presentations of each of the selected members of the Ukoro royal society. The meeting however ended that day awaiting our selection and declaration of the most viable, most qualified and eligible member of the Ukoro royal society as our new Odion’Rode.”
The Otota’Rode noted that, “After listening to the historical affiliations and membership status of the selected members of the Ukoro royal society during the selection process, we hereby declare Evang. High Chief Jabin Okiemute Oyibokure as the most viable, most qualified and eligible member of the Ukoro royal society and therefore present him to all Uwheru people, both at home and in the diaspora, the Urhobo ethnic nation, Delta State, Nigeria and the entire world as the new Odion’Rode of Uwheru kingdom.”
In a chat with our correspondent after the declaration, the new Odion’Rode of Uwheru kingdom, HRM, Jabin Okiemute Oyibokure, Ikegha 1 thanked the Erovie kingmakers and other leaders in the Erovie royal community for chosing him to be the new traditional ruler of the Uwheru people.
The new Odion’Rode said, “I’m indeed grateful to God for making today peaceful and joyous in our lives as a kingdom. In the same way too, I’m also grateful to Erovie kingmakers led by the Otota’Rode of Uwheru kingdom, High Chief Edward Eyamu and other respected leaders of the royal community for following the path of fairness, truth and justice in accordance to our tradition and culture in choosing me as the new Odion’Rode of Uwheru kingdom.
“I pray to God to give me divine wisdom to rule my people and the entire kingdom in peace, love and unity. I also plead with all the leaders of the kingdom to support me during my reign as the Odion’Rode to bring growth and development to the entire Uwheru kingdom. And to the other members of the Ukoro royal society that couldn’t make it, they should join me to move Uwheru kingdom forward. Let’s remove annoyance and grievances from our hearts. We are one,” he said.
The dates for the official installation and presentation of staff of office by the state government to the new Odion’Rode of Uwheru, HRM Oyibokure, Ikegha 1 are yet to be announced by the kingmakers.
