The Obio/Akpor and Etche Local Government Councils are making progress in resolving a longstanding land dispute, following a crucial security meeting at Obio Akpor Council Secretariat. The meeting, attended by stakeholders, including the boundary adjustment commission, police force, and community leaders, aimed to establish clear boundaries and curb land grabbing and criminal activities.

Iriebe Community, a key player in the dispute, has been urged to remain patient as the process unfolds. Council Secretary, a renowned lawyer, assured the community that justice will prevail, stating that “the wheel of justice drives slowly but at the end, truth will always prevail.”

However, the meeting was marred by the absence of Ikwerengwo community, who cited bereavement. This was met with disappointment and concern from the police and Iriebe community representatives, who accused Ikwerengwo of being nonchalant about the boundary issue.

Hon. Francis Eleto, CDC Chairman of Iriebe Community, expressed dismay over Ikwerengwo’s absence, stating that they had agreed to the boundary demarcation and were surprised that Ikwerengwo didn’t show up. He accused a prominent individual of standing in the way of the process and urged the Etche Council Chairman’s representative to prevail on Ikwerengwo to participate.

The representative of the Police Force headquarters also expressed disappointment, stating that they had left Abuja specifically for the meeting and were ready to proceed with the boundary demarcation.

The boundary demarcation is set for January 13 and 14, as the councils reiterate their commitment to restoring peace and justice. Dr. Mrs. Uche Ken Ndukwu, spokesperson for Etche anti-land grabbing and land acquisition management, stated that the chairman is committed to restoring peace and ensuring justice is served.

The development is being closely watched by residents of both LGAs, who are eager for a resolution to the longstanding land dispute that has led to violent clashes and unrest in the area.
