Ahead of the February 3rd re-run election in Yenagoa Constituency 2, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has given assurance that the election will be conducted under a free, fair and credible atmosphere, as all materials and security have been deployed to the seven polling units, urging all stakeholders to adhere to the rules and regulations which the electoral umpire had applied in previous elections.
The state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Obo Effanga, stated this in a press briefing in Yenagoa.
According to him, the re- run election was orchestrated by court action which had ordered a re- run due to the fact that People Democratic party candidate, Hon Eboiwou Koku Obiyal, a former chief whip of the Bayelsa state House of Assembly who scored 4593 who challenged the victory of the All Progressive Alliance, Warikumo Amakoro, who scored 4971 votes.
He further disclosed that though the contest is between the PDP and APGA, but that didn’t exclude other political parties that fielded candidates in the previous election and they will be accorded the same consideration during the Saturday re-run election in Yenagoa Constituency 2.
