INC: PH Stands Still as Ijaws Make ‘Strong Declaration on Rivers Gov’

Ijaw National Congress (INC), Eastern Zone last week, held Ijaw Unity Rally with the theme, ‘Ijaw United for One Nigeria.’

The event, which started with a procession of notable Ijaw sons and daughters along major roads and streets of Port Harcourt, terminated at Abuloma Secondary School Field, venue of the event, with eminent personalities from all walks of life in attendance.

Our reporter, who described the event as encouraging, said Ijaws defied the early morning rain to honour the event.

President of INC, Prof. Benjamin Okaba, commended the organizers of the event, noting that the sweet solidarity of Ijaws is being showcased to the outside world.

He noted that Ijaws as a people have contributed immensely to the socio-economic development of Nigeria and therefore deserve to be given a pride of place in the governance of the country.

Chairman of INC, Eastern Zone, HRH NLA Iraron, thereafter read the declaration, tagged: ‘Abuloma Declaration,’ that drew applause from the crowd.

“We have shown uncommon initiative in the Niger Delta struggle, we have worked and lifted our dear Rivers State to greater heights. Rivers Ijaws have capacity and experience for leadership. Any view expressed to the contrary is not based on truth. So we have come in peace and in strength, in truth and in brotherhood. We are seeking nothing short of the governorship of Rivers State,” part of the communique read.

Notable Ijaw sons and daughters, among who are Atamuno Atamuno, Ist Vice President, INC, Ijaw Wari, IYC, Rivers Governor ’23 Movement and others, reeled out solidarity messages.
