INC, Group Partner on Niger Delta Development

A Niger Delta group, Meinbutus Worldwide and the Ijaw National Congress (INC) have restated their commitment towards the actualization of a common interest for the development of the Ijaw ethnic nationality and the Niger Delta region.

This Port Harcourt Mundial learnt Tuesday during a courtesy visit paid to the executive of the Ijaw National Congress by the leadership of the group.

Menbutus, our correspondent gathered, is a group of nonviolent agitators in the Niger Delta region.

Addressing the group, Ijaw National Congress’ president, Professor Benjamin Okaba, reiterated INC’s desire to partner with all well-meaning groups within and outside the Ijaw nation in the progress and development of Ijaw land and the Niger Delta region.

Okaba noted that the burning issues of resource control, restructuring and fiscal federalism would be adequately pursued by the INC under his leadership.

He described ‘Meinbutus’ as a foremost non-violent agitators’ group in the oil rich Niger Delta region, adding that the group was the forerunner of most of the extant agitators groups in the region.

“The Ijaw national Congress would not compromise the issues of resource control, true and fiscal Federalism,

“We’ve told the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria our desire to see an oppression and marginalization-free Ijaw nation and by extension, Niger Delta,

“And so we’re waiting for the positive outcome of our last meeting with the President”, he said.

President of ‘Meinbutus’, comrade Ebiekebi Joseph, thanked the INC president for the reception, noting that their visit to the INC secretariat was to show solidarity with new executive of the body.

He pledged the commitment of his group to synergize with the INC on issues affecting the Ijaw nation and the Niger Delta region.
