INC Eastern Zone Inaugurates New Executives

… Okaba Urges Them to Promote Unity

The crème de la crème of the society converged at Abuloma Town Hall in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area to witness the epoch inauguration of the executive council of the Ijaw National Congress, Eastern Zone recently.

The hall was full to the brim, as notable Ijaw personalities came in their numbers to grace the event.

In his address, the new chairman, HRH Nla Iraron, called for the cooperation from members “to drive home a veritable and stable leadership,” adding that the new executive will “forge a common front in actualizing the realities of Ijaw people.

“I want to assure you that I and members of my executive will serve with even hand and malice towards none. Whether you voted us or not, I will be a father-figure to all of you and be the zonal chairman of all of you, and so will every member of the executive,” he maintained.

Earlier, INC’s President, Professor Benjamin Okaba, charged the new executive to be focused and exhibit “quality leadership towards a dynamic Ijaw nation.

“You are now No.1 servant of the Ijaw nation. God will give you what it takes to pilot the affairs of Ijaw people,” he said.

Describing the election as fair and credible, Prof. Okaba stressed the need to be forthright, with good vision, to enhance progress in Ijaw land.

“It is another milestone with our efforts to revive, rebrand, resuscitate and reposition the INC in the manner it can actualize the reasons for which it was formed,” he said.

He commended the electoral committee for their success in performing a wonderful task. He also lauded the ‘Miracle’ governor of Bayelsa State, Sen. Duoye Diri, and the commissioner for Ijaw Affairs, Hon. Patrick Erasmus, for their unparalleled support.

Chairman of the event, Prof. Obianime, advised the new executive to create an enabling atmosphere for Ijaw nation to have a common voice, as he assured them of support from all Ijaw people.

Notable Ijaw chieftains spoke glowingly during the inauguration ceremony, among whom were Atamuno Atamuno, 1st vice president of the INC, Dr. Felix Tuodulor, former IYC president, INC Central zonal chairman etc.

The ELECO chairman, Prof. Adokiye Okujagu, and his members also commended the process that led to the success of the election.

On the sidelines of the event, chairman of Ijaw Youth Council, Eastern Zone, Comrade Tamuno Kpokpo, described the election as one of the best so far in recent times, adding that the right thing had been done.

Kpokpo maintained that the INC has shown exemplary leadership, adding that IYC shall follow their lead.

“Ijaws should understand that power belongs to God and the will of the people will always prevail,” he stated.

The Youth leader called on Ijaw people to close ranks and support the ideals towards creating a solid platform for the ethnic nation to thrive, noting that Ijaw means truth.

Former IYC chairman, Eastern Zone, Comrade Sammy George, noted that the inauguration is the beginning of a new dawn in the history of Ijaw nation, with the zone having held a free, fair and credible election to the admiration of all.

He called for a robust leadership that will engage all Ijaws in Nigeria and in the diaspora to improve the socioeconomic impact of the people.

George advised the new leadership to create a platform for interaction with youth bodies in Ijaw land so as to curb ugly tendencies that may have negative impact on the society.
