Based on the incontrovertible facts that local governments facilitate development due to better representation of the people,a Chieftain of the Ijaw National Congress ( INC),HR Dr.Anyanate E.Kio,Leader of the National Representative Council (NRC) has called for the creation of more local councils in Bayelsa and Rivers States.
Dr.Anyanate Kio,who was speaking with journalists on arrival from Houston -Texas,USA on Monday,July 14,,2025 charged the National Assembly to factor the creation of more council’s for the area as they move to conclude their review of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,as amended. He remarked how the agitation for more LGAs had been neglected over the years and the fatal effects this had had on development in the area.
Dr.Kio,Leader of NRC which is the legislative arm of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) mentioned that Bayelsa deserves more councils, just like Kula,Andoni, Eastern Obolo and most of the coastal communities to boost security on the coastal to help improve security in the rural areas and attract greater development and accessibility to the hinterland.
On his visit to Houston -Texas,the INC Chieftain gave kudos to the leaders and members of INC in the Americas for the transparent elections they held ,noting that ” the digital elections were so free, fair and credible that no contestant protested the outcome”.
He,thus, sued that the forthcoming election of INC(to be on or before February 2026) in Nigeria should be conducted by high-profile personalities and not managed by aspirants still in power since they are likely to twerk matters to favour themselves.
Going forward, the NRC Leader stated that “all the clan elections in the Eastern Zone of INC were conducted and reported without complaints in the Zone and so it would be unconstitutional and unacceptable for National Executive Council (NEC) members interested in the forthcoming election to meddle therein and present different outcomes”,a situation that the legislative arm of INC would frown at.
Dr.Anyanate Kio pleaded with ambitious NEC members to “allow the success story of the current President of INC,Prof.Benjamin Okaba to go without ridicule through underhand electioneeri g nanouvres” in order to improve the support that is now growing for the Pan Ijaw organization.
