The Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rumuolumeni, has admitted 7,077 students into seven faculties for the 2022/2023 academic session.
This is as vice chancellor of the institution, Prof Okechuku Onuchuku, has declared a zero-tolerance for cultism and other crimes in the school.
Presenting his address at the 14th matriculation ceremony on Friday, Prof Onuchuku, said that out of the total figure admitted into undergraduate studies in the school, 6,736 students were through UTME and 341 through direct entry (A Level).
He urged the matriculants to be committed to their studies, describing this as their main reason for being on the campus.
Highlighting the school’s impressive performance at the NUGA competition, Prof Onuchuku urged the students to take advantage of the sporting and recreational facilities within the campus.
He further stressed the institution’s aversion to crime and examination malpractice, adding that the school will not hesitate to expel any student found culpable.
Prof Onuchuku described security within the campus as everyone’s business, while highlighting the school management’s efforts at maintaining security on campus.
He called on students, their parents and guardians to join hands with the school’s management in reinforcing these efforts.
Prof Onuchuku further urged parents and guardians to monitor their ward’s academic performance, as well as ensure their school fees are paid promptly.
He stressed that he and his colleagues are committed to ensuring that students of the university are adequately prepared to fit into the 21st Century knowledge-driven economy.
The Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) came into being in 1971 as a college of education, and later a university in 2009, through the University of Education Law N0 8 of 2009, with campuses at Ndele, Rumuolumeni and Saint John’s.
