Igbedi Emerges Uwheru Kingdom’s President-General, Calls for Unity, Peace

Following a keenly contested election, Chief (Hon.) Macpherson Igbedi, has emerged the new president-general of Uwheru kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, with a total of 51 out of the 92 votes cast.

The new executive, led by Chief (Hon.) Igbedi, is to rule Uwheru kingdom for the next four years

The election, which observers and delegates present judged as free and fair, was conducted on August 7, 2021 at the Uwheru kingdom town hall by an electoral committee headed by Mr. James Ogege as chairman and Mr. Edafe Efeyota as secretary, also saw Mr. Isaac Ogbe clinching the position of vice president-general and Chief Leader Uwre as secretary.

Others who were elected during the election were Power Eferakeya (treasurer), Elvis Aladja (project director), Nana Oghenetega (financial secretary), Clifford Agent (P.R.O.), Power Ebere (Asst. P.R.O.), Good Adade (organizing secretary), Stanley Arhomajiruvwe (internal auditor), Oghenekaro Umukoro (assist. secretary), Jenkins Ikoko (assist. financial secretary), Ogheneovo Etimu (assist. organizing secretary), Peace Orovweya (legal adviser), Akpomerha Atavwohwe as ex-official, and Isaac Akpo as ex-official. 

Speaking on behalf of the newly elected executive body of the Uwheru Development Union (UDU) after the results were announced by the electoral committee chairman, Mr. James Ogege, the new president-general of the union, Chief (Hon.) Macpherson Igbedi, who was filled with joy thanked all the delegates who considered them worthy to be elected into the new executive.

“Today I’m overwhelmed with joy to be elected president-general of this great kingdom. I’m neither the richest nor the most learned in Uwheru kingdom, but you considered me and my other executive members worthy to take over the mantle of leadership of the kingdom in this next tenure.

“For me, now that the elections are over, we all have to join hands together to move Uwheru forward. First and foremost, we are going to undertake the task of reviewing the present Uwheru constitution. Again, we are going to work hard to rid Uwheru kingdom of all kinds of criminality in the land. On the issue of Fulani herdsmen, we are going to tackle it headlong.

“I want to at this time congratulate my co-contestants in the presidential race. Even though they lost, I want to implore them to join hands with this my government by ways of advising us and giving us productive ideas to move Uwheru forward. All of us won the race together. Nobody was a loser. Once again, I want to appreciate the tireless efforts of the electoral committee for doing a thorough job devoid of electoral fraud or malpractices of any kind.”

Also, one of the electoral agents to the new president-general during the election, Chief (Hon.) Benjamin Ohworeko, thanked God for running a peaceful election that was devoid of crisis and frauds. He also congratulated his principal, Chief (Hon.) Macpherson Igbedi and other elected executive members as he emerged the president-general of Uwheru kingdom adding that, his efforts were not wasted all through the period of campaign and the election in the town.

He also described Igbedi as a thoroughbred grassroots politician who knows the pains and suffering of the Uwheru people and how to attend to them.
