Host Community Rights: Traditional Ruler Hails ‘High Court Ruling against NLNG’

By Ebube Egbufor

Amadabo of Finima in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Dagogo Lambert Brown, has expressed happiness over the recent High Court judgement in favour of Finima, the host community to the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) over the accruable benefits and entitlements owed them by the company.

Chief Lambert Brown made this known while speaking with newsmen at the Obafemi Awolowo International Airport (formerly Port Harcourt International Airport), Omagwa recently.

Recall that the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja recently declared that the community where the operational activities of an oil and gas firm are taking place reserves the hosting rights in such circumstances and should be engaged in that regard by the firm carrying out such operation.

The traditional ruler pointed out that the case, which has lasted for 30 years, generated series of protests and unrest by the Finima people, demanding for their rights as the landlord to the multinational company.

According to him, over the years, the host community has sacrificed their land and economic crops among others to allow the LNG operate without any payment, which he described as ill-treatment and injustice by the gas company.

Chief Lambert Brown further described the judgement as  a recompense for the delay and the sufferings of the host community occasioned by the neglect of the NLNG, adding that they would continue to push until what they deserve is given to them.
