The South South Democratic Movement (SSDM) has called on the Federal Government, International Oil Companies (IOCs), and all stakeholders to end the systematic marginalization, political exclusion, and environmental injustice in the Niger Delta region.
National Publicity Secretary of the group, Dr. Francis David Matthew, made the call in a statement he issued and disclosed to newsmen in Port Harcourt.
Matthew stated that Niger Delta region as the golden egg that lays the goose for the country will no longer accept silence or political tokenism as substitutes for environmental justice and progress.
He stated that the SSDM would continue to stand with the people of the region in commending what serves the interest of the Niger Delta people and condemn what fails them as a region.
“We will mobilize, picket, and lawfully confront any organization or institution that suppresses or ignores the interests of the region,” he said.
The Group called on every true son and daughter of the South South to rise, unite, and take responsibility for the destiny of the region.
Matthew reaffirmed the Group commitment to building a South South that is politically relevant, economically empowered, and socially respected.
