A pressure group, under the aegis of Save our Unity and Nauseant Democracy (SOUND), has said it is time for the Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri, to make available the financial and audited report of the financial situation of the state, over a month he took over the helm of affairs from his predecessor, Henry Seriake Dickson.
This they said is in line with the state’s transparency and accountability law.
SOUND described as a disservice and the height of deception for the former governor, Seriake Dickson, that prides his Restoration-led government as a transparent, to have failed, when it matters most, to give a transparency briefing on what his administration was leaving behind for the Governor Douye Diri-led ‘Consolidation for Prosperity’ administration.
SOUND in a statement by its coordinator, Prince Amiekumor Junior, said it is expected that the out gone governor Seriake Dickson would have complimented his monthly transparency briefing by explaining to Bayelsans how the well over 1.7 trilion naira received under his watch for 8yrs was spent and what is left in the treasury.
While commending Governor Diri for the payment of salaries owed workers by his predecessor, the controversial 2.9 billion naira car loan approved by the Bayelsa state House of Assembly for the governor, coming at a moment the new administration is just settling down to governance, speaks volumes of the financial situation of the state.
SOUND kicked against what they alleged as the continued representation of the former commissioner of finance at FAAC meetings in Abuja, when there is an accountant general and permanent secretary of the finance ministry.
On Covid 19, SOUND called on the governor to walk the talk by providing palliatives for the people and on corporate bodies and politicians, such as the former governor Seriake Dickson, minister of state for petroleum, Timipre Sylva, Mr Timi Alaibe, Chief David Lyon, Kenebi Okoko amongst other politicians to identify with the government and the people in protecting them against the Covid 19 pandemic.
