A group known as the United National Support Organisation in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), UNSOP, a socio-political body “cutting across the six geo-political zones across the country,” has called on Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers State “to use his charisma and political pedigree in PDP to re-organize the party for the purpose of the general unification of all aggrieved members of the party after the 2023 general elections.”
Speaking to newsmen recently in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, the chairman of UNSOP, Fortune Oyadongha, said that the call on Wike to unify the party after the 2023 presidential elections became expedient basically because of the salient role the Rivers State governor has played in the overall development of the party over the years.
The UNSOP chairman said the body is made up of all the support groups for the party across every nooks and crannies of the country in the last general elections, stressing that Gov. Wike’s clamour for the party to field its presidential candidate from the Southern part of the country as the elections were approaching was a step in the right direction, adding that this is why UNSOP is calling on Wike not to abandon the party at this stage but should rather stand by it and organize its unification.
Fortune Oyadongha further noted that only Wike has the capacity and the voice to revamp the party by opting for a national political summit with the aim of national cohesion and reconciliation, emphasizing that this would go a long way in saving the party from degeneration.
In his words: “A lot of national support movement for the party in the last presidential elections were shut out of the scheme of things within the party which led to their exit from the party and there is need for a strong arrangement for them to come back to the party.
He called on Gov. Wike to lead the party at this particular junction in its political history for social justice and socio-political re-engineering.
UNSOP’s spokesman, Hon. Victor Christopher, who is also the leader of South/South Integrity Initiatives for PDP (SIIFP), one of the groups in UNSOP reiterated that Gov. Wike is a grassroots politician and mobilizer who has passed through the rudiments of politics especially when viewed against his robust pedigree in not only Rivers State but across the country, stressing that this is quite evident in the huge Infrastructural and human capacity strides he has recorded in the oil rich state in particular and the country’s political space in general.
The various groups in UNSOP include National Democratic Frontier Movement (NDFM), South/South Integrity Initiatives for PDP (SIIFP) among others.
