The coordinator, Grant Offor Scholarship Progamme, Mr Promise Wele, has reassured the 105 undergraduates who sat for its scholarship examination of determination to use merit as the only yardstick as mode of selection.
Wele made this known shortly after the selection exercise at Omagwa in Ikwerre Local Government Area at the weekend.
He said the reason was to ensure that those with genuine quest for educational pursuit were not denied the opportunity.
“The scholarship examination is for those who just gained administration into the university or those already in school for their first degrees”, he said .
According to him, students must see hard and courage as part of the academic task and not depending on an unimaginable shortcut to success.
He said such were also part of the deals that informed the sponsor’s decision , thus the need to strengthen it.
The coordinator further reaveled the intention of their Principal to include Post Graduate students in the scheme, but was not specific about commitment date.
It was gathered that the 125 Under Graduate students applied online when the programme was advertised recently.
Transportation allowance was also provided for all the students to cushion the effect of high transportation fare as experienced in parts of the country in recent times.
Some of the students who reacted after the exercise like Blessing Ihuoma Chikweri and Chioma Egbule appreciated the organisers over what they described as a job weldone.
However, the students also prayed for God’s guidance and protection for their benefactor Chief (Engr) Grant Offor who they described as a philanthropist by nature.
The scholarship examination was for students from Ikwerre local Government Area including non indigenes residing in the Area.
It will be recalled that the Grant Offor Scholarship Progamme has successfully trained Youths from Omagw and that of neighboring communities.
