GOC Urges Soldiers To Focus On Professionalism

Former General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Maj.Gen Musa Yusuf has urged officers and soldiers of the division to remain focused on the standards of regimentation and professionalism of the Nigerian Army.

He said the call was necessitated by the need for the division to attain to the Chief of Army Staff COAS’s vision of having a professionally responsive Nigerian Army.

Addressing the officers and soldiers of the division Monday during a valedictory parade mounted on his behalf, Maj. Gen. Yusuf stated that during his six months tour of duty of the formation that he had to one way or the other push “the formations and units under the division towards attaining an acceptable standard of regimentation and professionalism”, noting that he even had to introduce different training activities that were hitherto unknown to most of the soldiers.

He explained; “these activities were conceptualised to reawaken all towards ensuring that the formation direction was in accordance with the COAS vision of having a professionally responsible Nigerian Army in the discharge of our constitutional roles”.

He described his stay at the division as fulfilling, interesting and eventful saying; “I have enjoyed an enormous cooperation and loyalty from you all through your respective commanders and Commanding Officers”. I am fulfilled the most of you have taken interest to enhance your professionalism and regimentation since the introduction of these training activities formation and units of 6 division”.

Maj.Gen Yusuf expressed optimism that his successor, Maj. Gen Jamil Sarha being a visionary person would improve on the already existing tempo to make all of us better personnel for the formation and the Nigerian Army.

“Your commitment, dedication as well as the will of the Almighty God contributed to the remarkable achievements of this division”, he said, urging them to remain focused as you continue to protect the image of this formation and the Nigerian Army at large.

He expressed appreciation to the officers and soldiers and their families for their efforts and their noble contributions throughout his tour of duty as GOC adding that they should extend the same cooperation and loyalty to his to his successor.

Highlights of the handing over and taking over ceremony were the parade by officers and men of the division and changing of command flag.

Maj. Gen Yusuf has been transferred to 81 Division of the Nigerian Army as the General Officer Commanding (GOC).
