Gender advocacy groups, the Do Foundation International and the Hilarity World Foundation, have opened a domestic Violence Clinic in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, so as to provide medical, legal and psycho-socio support to victims of domestic and sexual violence in the state.
According to the founder of Do Foundation, Barr. Dise Ogbise, and president of Hilarity World Foundation, Miss Grace Ukpevie, the Domestic Violence clinic is expected to also provide financial support to the victims and the creation of career and business support in order to create a means of livelihood for them after separation from their abusers.
President of Do Foundation International, Barr. Dise Ogbise, while speaking at the opening ceremony of the Domestic Violence clinic tagged ‘Exposing Domestic Violence,’ expressed concern over the rising cases of domestic violence and noted that despite the worrisome trend the advocacy groups in the state are gaining grounds in efforts to educate, intervene and stop violence against women.
She also noted that the domestic violence clinic will provide avenue for victims to have access to advocacy groups instead of dying in silence while suffering sexual and domestic violence.
Also, president of the Hilarity World Foundation, Miss Grace Ukpevie, pointed out that the domestic violence clinic is an online and mobile clinic for domestic violence victims and survivors, adding that “the goal is to ease the stress survivors go through when seeking help.”
