Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has announced March 2026 as the tentative date for the completion and inauguration of the 13.5-kilometre Oyorokoto Road, designed to connect the popular Oyorokoto community to the newly discovered Atlantic beaches in Andoni Local Government Area.
Speaking to newsmen during an inspection visit to the project site on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Governor Fubara described the road as a strategic link to the State’s emerging blue economy, noting that it would open up enormous tourism and investment opportunities.
The governor, who defied the weather to assess the ongoing work, explained that the initial plan to link only the Oyorokoto Beach was expanded after another tourist attraction was discovered along the Atlantic shoreline.
Expressing delight at the natural beauty of the oceanfront, Fubara said his administration intends to harness the area’s tourism and economic potential by developing activities that would enhance revenue generation and community growth.
“I call it the pathway to the blue economy. We decided to construct this road because there is a popular beach around here called the Oyorokoto Beach, one of the finest tourist centres. While we were embarking on that project, we discovered another site just facing the Atlantic Ocean,” the governor said.
He commended the project contractor, MCC, for its performance despite the challenging terrain, assuring that his administration remains committed to delivering the project on schedule.
“From what we have seen today, the contractor is doing its best. We believe that by March next year, we will return to commission this project,” Fubara added.
On his return from Andoni, the governor also made a stopover at the Kalaibiama-Epellema Road in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, where he inspected ongoing piling activities at the river-crossing bridge leading to Epellema.
