FRSC Embark on Medical Checkup for Drivers in Yenagoa

By David Owei, Yenagoa

The medical outreach organized by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, has been commended by the state chairman of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), comrade Erebo ThankGod.

Comrade ThankGod described the outreach as very encouraging, noting that it is through such programmes drivers will know how to take care of themselves if there is any particular ailment in their body, especially the eye aspect, which is very important.

The chairman made the commendation when FRSC’s medical team carried out checkup and eye test for drivers and other workers at the motor park.

“This checkup that they have come to do is very encouraging to me and my members. I thank them for coming from time to time because we are partners in the business, we work together. Without Road Safety, no union (NURTW), and without union, no Road Safety,” he said.

ThankGod expressed gratitude over the outreach, adding that it afforded them the opportunity to know their medical status and to give them advice where necessary.

He however said he was not happy with the turn out. “I am not impressed with the turn out because it’s very low.

“Most drivers are not here and they supposed to know that checking their health often is a good thing for them,” he said.
