Flood: Hope Beckons as Eruvwuoghene Foundation Supports IDP Camp in Uwheru

Following the intervention of Hon. Stella Eruvwuoghene Okotete, executive director, Business Development, Nigerian Export-Import (NEXIM) Bank, victims of the flood disaster in Uwheru Kingdom have begun settling in the camp opened for internally displaced persons Monday at Uwheru Grammar School in Uwheru, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Leading an assessment tour of the camp Monday evening, Barr Spencer Ohwofa, candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Ughelli North Constituency II in the forthcoming Delta State House of Assembly election, expressed satisfaction with the organization of the camp.

He lauded the “lioness of the Niger Delta for her bold intervention in ameliorating the devastating impact of the flood on our people,” and expressed profound gratitude to her on behalf of the Uwheru people for the noble gesture.

Barr. Ohwofa said that with the commencement of camping, more items such as bedding, mosquito nets, toiletries and food would be brought to the facility to accommodate the growing number of displaced persons who are currently being mobilized for camping. 

He called on the displaced person’s across communities in the kingdom to take advantage of the camp pending when normalcy is restored, emphasizing that “the safety and security of our people are most paramount at this time.”

At the time of filing this report, food items, medical supplies and medics were on ground to cater to the needs of the people, particularly children, pregnant women and nursing mothers.

In the coming days, more evacuees are expected to be mobilized to the camp from the different communities sacked by the flood.

Some volunteers helping to coordinate affairs at the camp are Uwheru Ward APC leader, Barr. Hon Igho Arhagba; APC Ward chairman, Prince Efemona Gideon, ward secretary, Hon. Chris Edesemo; youth leader, Comr. Peter Mitaire Arhagba; women leader, Mrs. Dorcas Ugbobor and representatives of the Eruvwuoghene Foundation led by the Delta Central APC women leader, Mrs. Loveth Omeru.
