Federal Controller Seeks Community Protection for Govt Projects


… Speaks on Bodo/Bonny Road

The Federal Controller of Works, Rivers State, Engr. Kehinde Koya, has tasked communities in its catchment areas to have the understanding that whatever government project sited in their domain is for their good and benefit, pointing out that there is the need to always protect them from vandals.

Speaking exclusively to this online platform in Port Harcourt, South-South, Nigeria, the federal controller, explained that its primary functions of monitoring and supervision of Federal Government road projects within it catchment areas do not in any way interfere or hamper the smooth relationship enjoyed with other governmental agencies at the state level or other stakeholders within the sector.

Engr. Koya said so far there is a strong synergy between state and Federal Government in ensuring a clean job is done on all federal roads, and further dismisses the insinuation of conflict of interest in their line of duties within the road sector, adding that those spreading such rumour do not understand the way government business works.

The federal controller disclosed that plans are underway by the Federal Ministry of Works to ensure that all federal roads embarked on are supervised by site engineer attached to each project, adding that the need for such supervision, with graphical photos of all federal road projects, is predicated on the necessitate to enhance the quality and the durability of such jobs.

He, however, regretted that the high level of rainfall within the catchment area has greatly hampered the level of progress expected, but assured that all Federal Government road projects embark will be given the necessary touch once the rain recedes as well when things get improved.

Asked his views on the issue of sharp practice by some contractors, Koya noted that “as a ministry our task is to deliver on our mandate. So any act of sabotage from our contractors is not welcome, because the ministry has its ways of checkmating acts of poor job delivery.”

The federal controller further disclosed that so far the Bodo/Bonny road project has been enjoying smooth operation due to the commitment of the Federal Government to deliver on all its projects.
