By Amos Odhe, Yenagoa

The deputy governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has reassured the political stakeholders and people of the Bayelsa West of the Prosperity Administration’s commitment towards completing the ongoing senatorial district road.

The deputy governor gave the assurance when an enlarged delegation of Bayelsa West political stakeholders visited him at his country home, Ofoni, in Sagbama Local Government Area to mark the New Year at the weekend.

Speaking at the carnival-like visit, Senator Ewhrudjakpo said the next phase of the critical Bayelsa West Senatorial road from Ekeremor to Agge would be flagged off this year during the official commissioning of the completed section of the road covering Toru-Orua to Ekeremor main town.

He thanked the political stakeholders for their unflinching support so far, especially during the 2023 gubernatorial election which ensured victory for the governor and himself, describing their support as the secret of his strength.

The Bayelsa Number Two man, who noted that the people deserved a thank-you-tour for massively voting for the PDP, however, assured them that there would be improvement in the area of appointments in the second term of the Governor Douye Diri-led Prosperity Administration.

His words: “I appreciate all our leaders for their unflinching support. It is your support that is my strength. We saw this clearly from the November 11 governorship election, which gave a landslide victory.

“This senatorial district is an impregnable stronghold of the PDP and would ever remain so. The Prosperity Administration appreciates your support.

“The next phase of the Bayelsa West Senatorial road will be flagged off during our official commissioning of the completed section of the road from Toru-Orua to Ekeremor. And by the grace of God, the road will get to Agge before the end of our second term in office.”

Speaking earlier, former governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Seriake Dickson said the political stakeholders of Bayelsa West were quite impressed with the performance of the deputy governor, and congratulated him and Governor Diri for their electoral victory.

Senator Dickson, who led the delegation on the visit, commended the stakeholders for their maturity, tolerance and demonstration of good leadership, and called on them to collapse all political boundaries to achieve greater cohesion and unity in the senatorial district.

Eulogizing the deputy governor on his positive virtues of loyalty, dedication and patience, Senator Dickson remarked that he was a quintessential role model for the youths of the senatorial district to emulate.

While underscoring the need for the Prosperity Administration to take the Bayelsa West Senatorial Road from Ekeremor to Agge in the next four years, he called on the people to allow the administration focus more on governance in order to take Bayelsa to the next level.

He said, “Let me commend the senatorial leadership of Bayelsa West for the maturity and tolerance being displayed by them. Our young and upcoming leaders have a lot to learn from their exploits.

“The love and support our deputy governor enjoys in the senatorial district is not in doubt. Senator Ewhrudjakpo has done very well in the past four years as deputy governor. He has shown capacity, loyalty, maturity, patience, so I am calling on our youths to come and learn from Senator Ewhrudjakpo. So far, the senatorial district is highly impressed.

“I want to use this forum to congratulate Governor Douye Diri and Senator Ewhrudjakpo on their electoral victory last year and their inauguration coming up in a month from now. I call on all stakeholders for more support and prayers for the government, so that by the next four years, the Bayelsa West Senatorial road would get to Agge.”

Other stakeholders who spoke at the event include the acting Bayelsa West PDP Caucus Chairman, Hon Fyneman Wilson; the Ekeremor LGA PDP caucus chairman, Hon Dein Benadoumené; Board chairman of Izon-Ibe Microfinance Bank, Chief Ayakeme Whiskey, state PDP chairman, Chief Solomon Aguanana, and the Pere of Tarakiri Kingdom, HRM King Koroye Seiyefa.

In another development, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo has condoled the mother of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Madam Eunice Jonathan, on the demise of her daughter, Obebatian Jonathan.

Consoling the bereaved at the residence of the former President at Kpansia, Yenagoa, Senator Ewhrudjakpo said it was lamentable that Obebatian Jonathan died at this time, leaving behind her aged mother in deep and inconsolable grief.

Citing the tragic loss of the Biblical Job, the deputy governor encouraged the elderly Madam Jonathan to look unto God for grace to overcome the huge burden of bereavement on her shoulders.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo assured the Jonathan family that his thoughts and prayers were with them in their trying moment of loss.
