The saying that a golden fish has no hiding place played out recently as Engr Adokiye Tombomieye was honored with an award for his meritorious service to the nation and humanity by the umbrella media body in the Niger Delta, the Niger Delta Media Forum (NDMF).
According to president of the NDMF, Prince Gbasam, Engr Tombomieye was honored in recognition for his outstanding leadership and contributions to the development to the oil and gas industry as well as support to the less privileged in the society through several empowerment and employment opportunities which have improved the economic status of several families and homes in the Niger Delta and the nation.
“It is gratifying to note that the award recipient who bestride the oil and gas industry like a colossus where he left indelible footprints and retired as executive Vice President, Upstream, in the Nigeria National Petroleum Company limited without blemish, is no doubt a role model to the younger generation in the Niger Delta and the nation at large,” the NDMF president said .
Responding, Engr Tombomieye, fondly called ‘Adoks’ by admirers and associates, expressed appreciation to the Niger Delta Media Forum for finding him worthy of the award even in retirement and pledged to continue to contribute to the development and well-being of the people in the Niger Delta and the society in general, as he advocated for love, peace and brotherliness among the people towards ensuring development for the region.
He maintained that there will be no meaningful development in an atmosphere of rancor and acrimony as he advised the people to imbibe the habit of encouraging others in positions of trust instead resorting to the campaign of calumny and blackmail that have characterized our psychic, which he described as counter productive.
He however used the opportunity to pay glowing tribute and appreciation to his late mother who he said gave him all the encouragement and support for a successful career and prayed God to continue to grant her eternal rest in His bosom.
The award ceremony which was brief but colourful took place at the palatial home of the recipient amidst pump and pageantry.
