EMOLGA Journalists Donates Educational Materials to Students in Rivers

As part of it’s commitment to support education at the grassroot, Journalists in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, under the aegis of EMOLGA Journalists Association (EJA) Worldwide, has distributed free educational materials to some secondary schools in the area.

The educational materials which included over 2,000 exercise books were distributed to students of Community Secondary School, and the Universal Basic Education section of the school in Elele Alimini town, Emohua LGA on Wednesday July 10, 2024.

Chairman of the EMOLGA Journalists Association, Comrade Kennedy Wedeh, who spoke shortly after distributing the exercise books said the gesture was part of the organisation’s efforts to support and promote education in Emohua LGA and the state.

Mr. Wedeh, in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the association, Evangelist Emmanuel Nlewedum, explained that the exercise which was the third edition of the “Education Support Project” by EJA, was sponsored by UAE based university Don, Prof. Chris Enyinda.

He said the “Education Support Project” embarked by the EMOLGA Journalists was also designed to provide relief for indigent families who struggle to provide basic stationery for their children and wards in public schools in the area.

The group appealed to Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the State Ministry of Education to provide more furnitures to schools, especially writing desks to enable pupils and students learn and write comfortably.

He also advised the students to take their education serious and stay away from cultism and any crime related activities within and outside the school environment.

He said, “EMOLGA Journalists Association, is an umbrella body of practicing Journalist from Emohua LGA, saddled with the responsibility of promoting and supporting good governance, project and protect the image of the LGA and her citizens.”

This our own little way of giving back to the society, and to promote and support education in our LGA. We felt that with this, we can support our little brothers and sisters in the public schools as well as their parents who finds it difficult to provide for them.”

He expressed appreciation to Prof. Enyinda for his support that led to the success of the 3rd edition of the EMOLGA Journalists’ Education Support Project, 2024.

Reacting to the gesture, the Principal of Community Secondary School, Elele Alimini, represented by one of the Senior teachers in the school, Mr. Kennedy Ihua commended the EMOLGA Journalists Association for the gesture, noting that it will go along way to assist the students in their academic pursuit.

He called on stakeholders, NGOs and spirited individuals in the LGA to emulate EJA in promoting and supporting education in the area.
