By Amos Odie, Yenagoa
Eleven Corps members from the 2023 Batch B stream I Service year of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in Bayelsa on Thursday earned the state coordinator’s commendation for excellence as 1,023 passed out.
Another nine persons were however sanctioned by the NYSC for various offences raging from abscondment. Five had their service year extended while four will be remobilized.
The Bayelsa State coordinator, Mrs Okpalifo Obiageli Charity, while speaking during farewell remarks at the 2023 Batch B stream I low-key passing out ceremony held at the Military Arcade (Peace Park) in Yenagoa, tasked corps members to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic growth of Nigeria.
Mrs Okpalifo charged them to always put into good use, the skills, knowledge, and experiences gained during the period of the service year, noting that it was time for them to not only be self reliant but also employers of labour.
She wished them well in their future endeavours.
She highlighted that during the 2023 Batch B stream I Service year, eleven (11) corps members distinguished themselves and therefore earned the state coordinator’s commendation, five (5) corps members would have their service year extended for various offences, while four (4) will be remobilized on account of abscondment from service.
On a sad note, one corps member passed on while on active service.
The programme was attended by the Executive Assistant to the Bayelsa State governor on NYSC matters, NYSC Assistant Directors, Zonal and Local Government Inspectors, other members of staff of the NYSC Bayelsa State Secretariat.
